What to do on Wednesday?

Wednesday, 8 July is a rest day from orienteering, but don’t spend the whole day relaxing—there’s plenty of other activities on offer in the middle of nowhere!

You can start the morning at 10:00 by attending the Forest Church service organized by the Salla Parish. It takes place at the natural viewpoint on the eastern slopes of Sallatunturi. The site is accessible by car and is partially covered. Everyone is welcome, including pets!

Salla Church is open during the summer season Monday–Friday from 11:00 to 16:00 for visitors and quiet reflection. There’s also a summer café in the church wing.

Located in the center of Salla, Save Salla Center offers activities for all ages. From 12:00 to 14:00, there’s Wednesday Fun for children. Afternoon dancing with music by Taneero takes place from 13:00 to 15:00. Admission is free, and a pop-up café will be open. Please bring cash!

Salla Museum, also in the town center, offers a guided public tour at 12:00. You can join with a regular admission ticket or a Museum Card.

Salla Library is open from 9:00 to 16:00. In addition to books and magazines, you’ll find a massage chair—perfect for relaxing muscles tired from orienteering. You can also work on a jigsaw puzzle, spend time with children, play mini billiards, study, work, or simply relax. Free Wi-Fi, a tablet, and a computer are available. The library’s media room also features a LEGO workshop, where visitors can build with LEGO bricks.

Salla Bowling Alley opens at 13:00 and is open until 19:00. All necessary bowling equipment is available, along with a café.

The Holiday Club Salla Spa is open from 14:00 to 20:00. Its large windows offer beautiful views of nearby Sallatunturi.

If you’d like to explore independently, check out the Visit Salla website for hiking and mountain biking routes, as well as information about bike rentals.

For a different kind of orienteering, local entrepreneurs are organizing a Village Orienteering event. You’ll get to visit local businesses, collect stamps, and enter a prize draw. More detailed participation information is available online.

Round off your rest day with karaoke at Restaurant Sallan Maja, starting at 20:00.

You can find all events in Salla in the local event calendar.
