Today we meet Nuria Calvo Segovia, D40A, and Antonio Hernandez, H36L, who both travelled 4000km from Spain to Salla. Every year they travel to a new country to learn more about orienteering, and this year they visited FIN5 for the first time.
‘It’s a really nice race and it’s really good to orienteer in different terrains, in different kind of forests. If you have run in one forest in Spain, you have seen all the forest in Spain. But this is different,’ Antonio says. Nuria agrees, laughs and says ‘we don’t have any swamps in Spain!’
Also the map is different. ‘In Spain, all the features are on the map and I dont have to use a compass.’ Antonio says. ‘Over here, only the most important anthill or stone is on the map, which makes it hard to read. And it was important to use the compass.’
‘But the terrain is beautiful here. And the weather is perfect. Spain is hot and noisy. Over here, it’s sereen. We also enjoyed the sauna in the evening.’
After FIN5 they will enjoy the silence of the Tuntsa Wilderness area before going back home to the heat. They invite everybody to come to Spain: ‘we have good orienteering weather, also in winter!’
