With 17 different nationalities present, Salla FIN5 is a true international competition. Each day we try to interview one of our foreign guests.
Today we met Peichi Chuang, D50, from Taiwan. ‘This is my 4th or 5th FIN5,’ she says with a big smile. ‘And this terrain is very special.’ It’s both different from her experiences in the south of Finland and from the orienteering in Taiwan.
‘In Taiwan we only have sprint orienteering. The mountains and forest are too steep to go to, so we stay in the city.’
‘And last year at FIN5 there were very obvious contour lines to follow. Today it was a lot of marsch, with no clear contour lines. I had to use my compass, which is not my best skill. But I didn’t make many mistakes and I happy with how it went.’
‘I’m very happy to be here. The FIN5 competitions are well organised and the Finnish people are very welcoming. I’m just happy to be running here with a healthy body.’
